Head Swim Coach
Willow Oaks is currently seeking a summer Head Swim Coach. The Head Coach organizes all functions for the summer swim team including supervision of assistant coaches, organization of practice schedule, meet preparation, social events, season banquet and parent volunteers. The meet season begins late May and runs through late July. The head coach aligns his/her focus in creating a fun and welcoming environment for children with a focus on developing friendships, improving stroke fundamentals, and creating summer memories. We have approximately 160 swimmers from the ages of 5-18 participate each summer.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•Schedules, organizes, and attends practice sessions and swim meets
•Provides clear and concise communication to parents of swim coaches regarding practices, meets, and all relevant swim team information
•Develops and executes all aspects of swim team training, including but not limited to swim mechanics, sportsmanship, and swim etiquette
•Organizes all aspects of swim meets including, but not limited to meet set-up, scheduling individual race participants, recording, and posting start times and distributing race ribbons
•Interviews, trains, schedules, and evaluates assist coaches
•Assists designated swim team parents in organization and recruitment for swim team program
•Attends and participates in the Club’s coaches’ meeting
•Organizes duty lists and directs set up and breakdown of all swim practices and meets
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
•Knowledge of water rescue methods
•Knowledge of life guarding and first aid practices and techniques
•Knowledge of swimming pool operations to include: sanitation, maintenance, and safety
•Must have the ability to interact with pool patrons courteously and firmly
•Ability and skill in carrying out water rescues
•Successful candidates will have had competitive swimming experience and coaching experience
Minimum Qualifications:
•Must possess a valid CPR/AED/First Aid certificate and Water Safety Instructor Certificate
•Must be certified in American Red Cross Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), for the Professional Rescuer or become certified within 30 days of employment
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience life guarding
•Pool operation license
•First Responders certificate
•American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certificate
A successful candidate must have the ability to see the big picture, act with proactive mindset, demonstrate attention to detail, follow-through, and ability to adapt communication to individuals of all backgrounds. The position will start with a flexible part-time schedule to prepare for the season with a rate of $20/hour. The position will then switch to full-time from middle of May through late July. At that point, compensation will be salary based and the Head Coach will receive $8,000 total from salary.
