Superior golf along the majestic James River

Already recognized as one of Virginia’s premier golf courses, the Willow Oaks golf course underwent a major renovation in 2007 and 2008. The course originally opened in 1957 as designed by W.F. Gordon and Son. The par-72 layout was later redesigned by golf course architect Lester George, reopening in June 2008 to critical acclaim. Our scenic golf course on the James River, now stretched to 7,100 yards, has Bermuda fairways and bent grass tees and greens. The course has hosted the State Open of Virginia multiple times in its history.

The golf course is open year-round and gives golfers a choice of five teeing areas. Along with the championship 18 holes, our practice facility is one of the finest anywhere, with live grass terraced tees, target greens, three putting greens, a chipping and bunker practice area, and an endless supply of complimentary Titleist practice balls. Along with a full-service golf shop, the Club offers custom club fitting, large lockers, bag storage and handicap services.

In addition, we offer a strong Junior Golf program, including a Junior Prep Program and PGA Junior Golf League. Summertime finds kids of all ages on the course enjoying camps, and offers Junior play days for the independent golfer. Family tournaments provide quality time, or simply schedule a round for fun.

One of the privileges of private club membership is members-only golf tournaments. Willow Oaks also offers limited opportunities each year for members to bring a guest for regular play or to participate in a member-guest event.

Annual golf events include:
  • Meet Me at the Rock - Kickoff to a new golf season
  • The Tradition - Member/Member event
  • The Invite – One-Day Member/Guest
  • 1958 - Anniversary Scramble
  • The Old House - Couples’ Championship
  • Club Championships for Ladies and Men
